THEMATIC SESSION DESCRIPTION

Immersive technologies are rapidly evolving from compelling visualization platforms to integral components of modern industrial systems. As XR solutions become embedded within production lines, monitoring infrastructures, and decision-support environments, ensuring their reliability, measurable performance, and seamless integration with existing digital architectures becomes essential. This session welcomes contributions that address system robustness, quantitative validation methodologies, uncertainty assessment, and real-time data exchange in operational industrial contexts.

Particular emphasis will be placed on XR-enabled digital twins, immersive simulation platforms, advanced human–machine interfaces, and monitoring systems interconnected with AI- and IoT-driven infrastructures. Contributions exploring the convergence of XR with data-driven intelligence—such as AI-based analytics, predictive maintenance, adaptive control, and quality assurance—are encouraged, especially when XR is treated as an enabling component within larger intelligent ecosystems.

The objective is to foster discussion on validation frameworks, deployment strategies, and industrial case studies where XR, AI, and IoT contribute to traceable, scalable, and trustworthy solutions. Applications of interest include manufacturing, maintenance, structural monitoring, inspection, operator training, and engineering decision-making.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

Dr. Davide Mastrodicasa is currently employed at Siemens Industry Software as Advanced Research Engineer. After obtaining a PhD in Structural Dynamics and Experimental Methods, his research has focused on the development of camera-based and data-driven methodologies for full-field vibration measurement, with particular attention to the transfer of advanced experimental techniques into industrial practice.
His expertise includes structural and fluid dynamics, optical measurement techniques, and XR-enabled simulation environments for engineering applications. Over the years, his work has progressively integrated digital twin frameworks, AI-driven data analysis, and immersive visualization technologies to support validation, monitoring, and decision-making processes in industrial contexts. His research activity bridges rigorous experimental methods with intelligent, scalable solutions for real-world engineering systems.

Dr. Claudio Colangeli is currently employed at Siemens Industry Software in Leuven (Belgium). He is working as Research Engineering Manager for the IoT and Artificial Intelligence research team dealing with experimental applications in mechatronics and transportation industry. After obtaining a PhD degree in Industrial Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Marche (Italy) in 2017, his career in industry continues at Siemens with the role of technical expert in acoustics with focus on virtual environments for subjective and objective assessment of noise and vibrations perception. Over the years, he expands his research focus towards digital twins and IoT-based technologies, currently including processing automation and data-centric AI.
