Authors of papers presented at this conference and within the scope of Computer Standards and Interfaces may submit a technically extended version to the Special Issue Neural Interfaces and eXtended Reality for Industry and Health 4.0.
The combined use of BCI and XR evolves the interface concept in human-computer interaction. BCI provides a new input channel no longer mediated by traditional visual, acoustic, and tactile interfaces. XR provides new ways of enjoying the output by bringing the immersiveness (sense of presence). A further innovative aspect with respect to traditional measurement systems is that the user and the measurand can coincide. The development of standards and instruments is an emerging issue both in Industry and in Health 4.0.
This Special Issue is open to all researchers from the fields of Metrology, Brain Computer Interface, eXtended Reality, and Artificial Intelligence and practicing virtuous interdisciplinary cross-fertilization.
The proposed topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to:
- XR&BCI-based bio-neurofeedback trainings;
- EEG-based emotion monitoring;
- Data fusion to investigate brain activity;
- Adaptive, real-time learning environment based on the mental states of the users;
- "Affective computing" with deep learning methods;
- Domain adaptation and generalization for biosignal-based mental state detection;
- Standardisation of XR stimuli in psychometry based on biosignals.

ABOUT THE JOURNAL
Soft Computing is dedicated to the quality of software, well-defined interfaces (hardware and software), the process of digitalisation, and accepted standards for building and exploiting complex computing, communication, multimedia and measuring systems. Standards can simplify the design and construction of individual hardware and software components and help to ensure satisfactory interworking.
