ABSTRACT
Artificial intelligence and wearable sensing technologies are beginning to transform neurological care by extending monitoring beyond the clinic and supporting earlier intervention. However, successful adoption requires more than technological innovation. Healthcare solutions must address genuine clinical needs, generate meaningful evidence, fit seamlessly into clinical workflows, and maintain appropriate human oversight.
In this presentation, Neuraxpharm's approach to investing in and developing AI-enabled medical technologies will be explored through the example of seizure anticipation in drug-resistant epilepsy. The session will discuss how advances in wearable neurophysiology, ear-EEG technology and personalised AI algorithms are enabling a move from event detection towards seizure forecasting in everyday life.
Using Episeras as a case study, the presentation will illustrate how personalised models can learn from an individual's own physiological data to provide real-time risk assessment and alert patients before seizure onset, allowing time to take appropriate safety measures. The presentation will also examine the broader care pathway required for successful implementation, including patient selection, onboarding, clinical support, evidence generation and real-world adoption. The session concludes with practical considerations for clinicians, researchers and healthcare innovators seeking to translate AI innovations into meaningful patient outcomes and routine clinical practice.
SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
César Rodríguez Domínguez is Corporate Head of the MedTech Business Unit at Neuraxpharm, a European specialist in brain health, where he leads global MedTech strategy from development to commercialization. A senior executive, board advisor and educator, he has more than 15 years of international leadership experience across healthcare, pharma, MedTech and digital health, helping organizations turn digital innovation and AI into sustainable business growth.
He has been CEO of Zerintia HealthTech and AxisMed, Chief Digital Operating Officer at Baleària, and Director of Telefónica’s global digital health business for Europe and Latin America. He is co-founder of TalamIA, a training center for AI and digital skills in healthcare and pharma, and advises founders, boards and investors on growth and emerging technologies.
César holds an MBA from ESADE and completed the Advanced Management Program at Kellogg School of Management.
